A 61-year-old woman was charged with careless use of a firearm after police reported her firing a rifle on a roadside in Newfoundland. The incident occurred on October 14, around 8:15 a.M. In Harbour Grace, according to the Trinity-Conception District RCMP. The woman was arrested on Wednesday morning following the report. She will appear in court in December 2026.
The charge stems from a complaint about a hunter firing a rifle on the New Harbour Barrens. Police were called to the scene and identified the individual. The case highlights ongoing concerns about firearm safety in rural areas. No injuries were reported in the incident.
This is not the first time firearm-related incidents have drawn attention in the region. Local authorities have previously issued warnings about responsible gun handling, especially during hunting seasons. The case also underscores the challenges of enforcing wildlife and firearms laws in remote areas where law enforcement resources are limited. The court appearance in 2026 will be the next step in the legal process.
