An Alberta resident has embarked on a historic journey to the International Space Station. Joshua Kutryk, a resident of Fort Saskatchewan, launched on a mission that marks a significant milestone for Canada’s space program. The launch took place from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, where Kutryk joined a crew of four astronauts.

Kutryk, a former Canadian Forces pilot, is part of the Soyuz MS-25 mission, which aims to deliver supplies and conduct scientific experiments. His role includes operating the station’s robotic arm and assisting with spacewalks. The mission is expected to last approximately six months.

This is the first time an Albertan has traveled to the International Space Station. Kutryk’s journey follows years of training and preparation, including time at the Canadian Space Agency’s training center in Quebec. His mission highlights Canada’s growing involvement in international space exploration.

Kutryk’s launch has sparked excitement among space enthusiasts in Edmonton and across Canada. The city has a growing space industry, with several local companies contributing to satellite technology and aerospace research. His mission underscores the region’s increasing role in global space initiatives.
