A deadly fire at CFB Wainwright in Alberta killed four soldiers and injured dozens during a training exercise on Saturday. The blaze engulfed a training area at the base, located southeast of Edmonton, in what officials described as a fast-moving incident.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the fire began, but the flames spread quickly, overwhelming the soldiers present. According to Defence officials, 84 members of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry were in the training area at the time. Four of them lost their lives, while more than 30 others were hospitalized.

The fire occurred under extreme weather conditions, with experts noting a dangerous combination of wind, temperature, and humidity that contributed to its rapid spread. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

This incident has sparked a national mourning in Canada. Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of life and the injuries sustained. A military veteran from Newfoundland and Labrador shared his grief, highlighting the emotional impact of the tragedy.

The Canadian Blood Services reported a surge in public donations following the event, with many people stepping up to support the victims. The base is currently under review to determine the full extent of the damage and to assess safety protocols for future training exercises.
