A zookeeper in the Netherlands died after being attacked by a leopard in its enclosure, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred over the weekend at a safari park in the country. The zookeeper, who had worked at the facility for years, was injured during the attack and later succumbed to her wounds.
Emergency services were called to the scene following reports of the incident. The leopard was contained shortly after the attack, and no other staff members were injured. The zoo has since closed its enclosure for investigation and safety checks.
This is the second known fatality involving a leopard at a Dutch zoo in recent years. In 2021, a similar incident resulted in the death of a zookeeper at another facility. The case has raised questions about animal safety protocols and staff training in wildlife enclosures. Regulatory bodies are expected to review the incident as part of ongoing safety assessments.
