A magnitude 7 earthquake struck Tibet on Thursday evening, according to the China Earthquake Administration. The tremor occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers and was centered in a mountain district of Nagqu, in northern Tibet. Local authorities are still assessing the extent of the damage.
The quake hit at around 22:33 local time, which is 14:33 GMT. Initial reports from the China Earthquake Administration indicate no immediate casualties or structural damage. The region is known for its seismic activity due to its location along the Himalayan fault line.
This is the second earthquake in the area this month. A smaller tremor of magnitude 5.3 struck the same region on Monday, causing minor shaking but no damage. Experts warn that the area remains at risk for future seismic events. The government has deployed monitoring teams to the region to assess the situation further.
