A military jet crashed in southern Nigeria on Monday, killing 25 people including passengers and crew, according to authorities. The aircraft was carrying 25 passengers and 7 crew members when it went down in Ondo state. Emergency services launched a rapid response to locate survivors and recover the wreckage.
The crash occurred in the afternoon local time, near a populated area. Initial reports indicated the plane lost altitude quickly, leading to a crash in a rural region. Rescue teams used ground and aerial units to search the site. No official cause of the crash has been released.
This is the second major aviation incident in Nigeria this year. In March, a commercial flight crashed in the northern state of Kaduna, killing 30 people. Both accidents have raised questions about aviation safety in the country. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has announced an investigation into the crash.
