Ottawa voters elected new trustees for the city's four school boards during the October 26 municipal election. The election saw candidates from various political parties and community groups compete for seats on the Ottawa Catholic School Board, Ottawa Public School Board, Carleton University School Board, and the Algonquin College Board.
The results reflect a mix of experienced educators and community leaders. The Ottawa Catholic School Board elected three new trustees, including two from the Conservative Party and one from the New Democratic Party. The Ottawa Public School Board saw the election of four new members, with a majority from the Liberal Party. The Carleton University School Board elected two new trustees, one from the Green Party and one from the Progressive Conservative Party. The Algonquin College Board elected three new members, with two from the Liberal Party and one from the New Democratic Party.
This election marks the first change in school board leadership since the 2018 municipal election. The new trustees will serve four-year terms, beginning in January 2025. The changes come amid ongoing discussions about educational reform and community engagement in Ottawa's public schools. The election results highlight the continued influence of local political parties in shaping educational policy.
