Republican Mike Mazzei won the governor election in Oklahoma on Tuesday, defeating Democrat Cyndi Munson. The Associated Press declared Mazzei the winner at 11:46 p.M. EST. Mazzei, who heads an investment management firm in Tulsa, received the endorsement of former President Donald Trump. He previously served in the state Senate from 2004 to 2016 and worked as the state budget secretary. He will succeed Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt, whose term was limited. Munson, the state House minority leader, ran as the Democratic candidate.
Mazzei’s victory marks the continuation of Republican leadership in Oklahoma, following the term limit of outgoing governor Kevin Stitt. The election results reflect a shift in state politics, with Mazzei’s win signaling strong support for his platform and experience in both private sector and public service. His campaign focused on economic growth and fiscal responsibility, themes that resonated with voters.
This election comes amid broader national political trends, with several key races across the U.S. Showing shifts in control of state governments. In Texas, Democrat Gina Hinojosa is projected to defeat Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, marking a historic change in leadership. Similarly, in North Carolina, Democrat Richard Ojeda won against Republican Rep. Richard Hudson. These developments highlight the dynamic nature of midterm elections and their impact on state-level governance. The outcomes in Oklahoma and other states will shape policy directions and political strategies in the coming years.
