The head of MI5 has confirmed that Iran is targeting military sites in the UK, linking the recent incident at RAF Fairford to a broader pattern of Iranian activity. The suspected plot to attack a U.S.-run military air base in September is described as “not unique” by Sir Ken McCallum.
The incident at RAF Fairford is believed to have been directed by Iran’s security forces, according to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. The attack, which targeted a U.S. Military installation, is part of a growing trend of Iranian actions against Western military targets. McCallum noted that the past year has seen an increase in Iranian operations against Jewish sites, with a shift toward harder targets such as military bases.
This follows reports that Iran has been escalating its efforts to disrupt Western military presence in the region. The UK intelligence chief emphasized that the targeting of military infrastructure is a deliberate strategy, reflecting a broader geopolitical tension. The incident at RAF Fairford is seen as a warning of increased Iranian aggression. The UK is now reviewing its security measures in response to the threat.
