Hundreds of doctors in Alberta say they would leave the province if it becomes independent, according to a recent survey. The Alberta Medical Association conducted the poll of 1,649 physicians, finding that more than half would not continue practising in an independent Alberta.
The survey highlights concerns among medical professionals about the potential impact of provincial secession on healthcare services. A significant portion of respondents indicated they would no longer work in Alberta if the province leaves Confederation. This could lead to a major shortage of medical staff and affect patient care across the region.
The issue of Alberta’s potential independence has been a topic of debate for years. Previous discussions have focused on economic and political factors, but this survey adds a new dimension by addressing the healthcare sector. The findings suggest that the medical community is deeply concerned about the stability and viability of the healthcare system in an independent Alberta. The results may influence future political and policy discussions regarding the province’s status within Canada.
