The final stretch of the Team Gushue Highway in Newfoundland and Labrador is set to open on Friday. The government announced the completion of the last phase of the highway, which has been under construction for 25 years. The project, named after the local athlete and politician, marks a significant milestone for regional infrastructure.
The highway, which connects the coastal town of St. John’s to the interior, was initially planned to improve transportation and economic opportunities. Construction began in the early 1990s, but faced delays due to environmental assessments and funding challenges. The final section, spanning several kilometers, was completed after extensive planning and community engagement.
This development comes as the province continues to invest in transportation networks. The opening of the highway is expected to boost local tourism and commerce, providing better access to remote areas. Officials emphasized the importance of the project in supporting regional growth and connectivity. The event is part of broader efforts to modernize infrastructure across Newfoundland and Labrador.
