Hurricane Isaias made landfall as a Category 2 storm near Destin, Florida, on Friday evening. The storm brought damaging winds, heavy rain, and flooding to the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Local authorities confirmed four deaths linked to the storm. Two fatalities occurred when trees fell on homes. A woman died in Florida’s Panhandle after a tree crashed into her home. Two additional deaths were reported in Alabama.
Power outages affected over 670,000 residents in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. Electricity monitoring services reported that the storm weakened to a post-tropical cyclone by Saturday.
The National Weather Service warned of life-threatening storm surges along the Gulf Coast. Flooding and possible tornadoes were also reported in the region.
Hurricane Isaias was the first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. It moved quickly inland, causing widespread damage but no immediate reports of major infrastructure collapse.
